sometimes I wonder why some popular music acts are popular. Nirvana is one of them. Nirvana was a pretty good band, but there are a lot of better rock bands from the era. Watching this clip helps to explain the cult of personality that has arisen around Kurt Cobain. Music like this requires a certain mood not just to be appreciated but even to tolerate. Seeing this, I think I understand how he became the spokesjunkie of a generation to the disaffected youth that seemed to omnipresent in the early 90's. In fact, I don't just understand, I fall for it. It's sexy. The complete don't-give-a-fuck-ness of the band's attitude is infectious and liberating, it somehow seems to force you to agree with their worldview instantly and enjoy the rocking. it's effortless cool, and that's why they were hugely popular and others weren't.
